Mera Democratic Pakistan – Development Journalism


This video has been sent by Afsar Afghan, who is working as a correspondent of from the city of Peshawar. The campaign “Mera democratic Pakistan” initiated by has now entered its final phase where the correspondents and rest of the Pakistanis are asked to send their videos, mobile videos and photographs to help show the healthier version of Pakistan to the rest of the world.

In this short documentary film, Afsar has shown the educational development in Pakistan. He has made it a point to bring forth the progress of universities all around Pakistan which is considered as an anti-education country.

An event took place in Peshawar University in its Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Hall with the support of German government JIZ and Journalism and Mass Communication Department of Peshawar University. This event was held to celebrate the starting of a short course named as “Development Journalism” in Peshawar University with the support of German Government JIZ. The duration of this course is three months and students will be taught basic journalism in this course.

Students of Peshawar University are really happy to have this course offered in their university. One of the girls tells that she had an age old desire of studying journalism but the circumstances made her study commerce instead. She was inspired by her father who is a senior journalist in Peshawar city. She is glad to take this course as its duration is short and allows her to fulfill her wish of studying journalism.

Another person named as Rahat Shinwari, who is working as a tribal journalist, says that all the trainings and programs he has attended earlier have taught only the theoretical part of journalism and he considers this course as an opportunity as it provides him with the practical experience in the field of journalism.
